Now I'm living in four-track heaven. Endlessly experimenting outside the standard song structures I had been tied to when it was just me and a guitar. The ability to retake, overdub, sample and effect the soundwaves being captured on 1/8th inch of magnetic tape provided me with the keys to the kingdom of musical expression. One of my biggest difficulties in the past was conveying my ideas to other musicians. Being a good bassist but only an adequate guitarist left some songs misinterpreted in the final cut. Now, as long as I could play what I was thinking once, even a fragment at a time, I could create what I wanted, how I wanted, when I wanted. This was a good thing. I didn't sleep much, not that I ever did. But now instead of being out at clubs seeing other bands when I wasnıt playing somewhere myself, I'd be locked in home studio until two or three in the morning, pass out and wake up at eight and go to work.

During a visit to Florida I went in the studio with Randy and Moss to record a couple songs for a new project that was to become Johnny Tonite. Itıs amazing to think of how many different times when I was in the studio, on stage or rehearsing, it was Pete Moss on drums (and guitar). Whatta rhythm section we wuz!

I met Sharyn November while waiting in line at Tramps NYC for NRBQ tickets. She had a band called Brave New Week that I began to go see often at Nightingale on second ave in the city. When they broke up I joined with Sharyn as she formed Tinderbox. Iıve included two songs from an early rehearsal here, but see disc 11 for a more substantial look at this great pop band.
