It was the summer of 1985. I had two weeks vacation from work and nowhere I wanted to go. So I decided instead to do a musical experiment. With little-to-no preparation what could I write, arrange and record in a period of fourteen days? This was the answer.

Angelo (from F, Chaos, etc) had recently purchased a 4-track and was willing to let me borrow it. Once I had the basic tracks down I called on Rich Definis (from Stan Still Dance Band) and Pete Moss (from almost everything) to lay down some lead guitar.

Two minor cheats in assembling this "album": 1) "Donšt Go..." was actually recorded at Squalor Sound with Kennedy on lead guitar and 2) "Midnight" was a cover of an 1953 country song written by Chet Atkins and Boudleau Bryant, recorded more-or-less live in my living room with Angelo and Keith from F on percussion, harmonies and guitar.

The loose concept came from a book I owned from the early 1900šs entitled The Modern Conjuror. It was a collection of sleight of hand and parlor tricks. So therešs a thread of magic and mystery that runs through part one. The final track of part two (The Wand) is an aural representation of the album title, as I threw in every (tape) trick in the book for the grand finale.
