So the Spanish Dogs began in earnest. But first a little background. Michael Kennedy, who originally formed the band with Randy Ruffner, was Burtıs (from Nightstand) cousin. Something new? Sure, why not. I virtually spent every available hour playing bass anyway, so I met with Kennedy.

Michael and Randy had already pressed a 4-song E.P (a fragment of which is heard tagged on the end of "Cleveland" on disc 1). I liked their ideas, if not the E.P. and after some early rehearsals with different musicians, I invited Pete Moss down for an audition. Soon after, Michael met Maryanne (Ruby Cadilac/Cynthia Pin) Nazarro. With this line-up we recorded "Hire Every Hitman" for the Open Records compilation album and Donıt Sweat The Petty Things, a five-song EP. This was followed by a limited edition Christmas cassette featuring a special Christmas recording, live tracks and some studio works-in-progress.

Pete and I, who had played together since Stonehenge in 1978, continued our habit of playing as much as possible by starting The Cult Heroes, a tongue-in-cheek, occasional new wave/punk rock/esoteric/local cover band (example: our opening medley of the "Theme from the Partridge Family" and "Six Pack" by Black Flag).

I also began working with Maryanne in Ruby Cadilac. Actually, there were two versions of this band. Ruby and I, with our drummer Marcy, did covers and a smattering of originals for cash in some of the seedier dives around town, while her all- original, all-girl heavy metal band gigged at the local rock clubs.

Meanwhile, the Dogs gigged steadily, eventually returning to the studio to record the LP Mogol Le Gan. It consisted of a number of new songs and a chunk of the Petty Things EP. Unfortunately, tensions mounted, behaviors deteriorated and personalities clashed. Because of this, Michael "locked out" the other band members from the studio, including co-founder Randy Ruffner. Consequentially, when the album was finished, so was the band. For the time being, anyway.
